SAASST, Cyprus Planetarium explore ways of collaboration

Sharjah24: In line with its keenness to enhance partnerships with various international institutions and companies specialized in astronomy and space technology, the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) of the University of Sharjah (UoS), welcomed a delegation from the Cyprus Planetarium, to explore ways of joint collaboration in conducting scientific research, projects, and programs, exchanging knowledge expertise, and showcasing the latest systems and technologies used at SAASST.
During the visit, the delegation was introduced to the Academy’s various units, activities, and ongoing research projects in fields of space, astronomy, and physics. They were also presented with various interactive workshops, activities, and training programs offered by the Academy for school and university students. 

In addition, the delegation had the opportunity to explore the upgrades made to the newly developed Sharjah Planetarium and the technologies installed in the dome. They also watched a special show at the Sharjah Planetarium simulating space, stars and planets, and toured SAASST’s space laboratories, scientific exhibitions, departments, and facilities. 

In reciprocation, the delegation provided an overview of the Cyprus Planetarium, which focuses on integrating education and entertainment. They showcased the educational movies and simulation games offered at Cyprus Planetarium, as well as the scientific and educational events, activities and lectures organized to encourage students to study space sciences. Additionally, they presented the scientific research and projects they are working on in various fields of space and astronomy.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Marwan Shwaiki, Director of Planetarium and Community Outreach Department  at SAASST, Dr. Antonios Manousakis, Acting Director of Space Sciences Department, SAASST, and Prof. Mashhoor Al-Wardat, Director of Academic Affairs at SAASST. In addition to attendees from Cyprus Planetarium including Mr. Vladislav Zarenkov, Cyprus Planetarium Board President, Mr. Stelios Tryfon, Cyprus Planetarium co-CEO and 1010Cosmos CEO, and   Achileas Kentonis, Cyprus Planetarium co-CEO and Interstellar CEO.
