Sharjah 24: Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman, Chairman of Sharjah Ruler's Office, witnessed, this Wednesday morning, the launch of the "Contemporary Jurisprudential Jurisprudence and its Impact on Serving Sustainable Development", in Al Razi Hall in the Medical Colleges and Health Sciences Complex at the University of Sharjah.
The opening of the conference began with the rendition of the UAE national anthem, after which verses from the Holy Quran were recited, before Dr. Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Director of the University of Sharjah, delivered a speech in which he extended thanks and gratitude to the chairman of the Office of His Highness the Ruler for honoring the opening of the conference and honoring the speakers and sponsors.
In his speech, the Director of the University of Sharjah stressed the importance of insight and sound thinking to ensure the success of business and achieve goals for the benefit of society, saying: “It is a matter of pride for us, academics and administrators, to work and strive at the University of Sharjah, under the guidance of a decree from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Founder of the University, and under the continuous patronage of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, President of the University.
Al Nuaimi pointed out in his speech that sustainable development, the topic of which the conference addresses, is one of the priorities of the University of Sharjah in all scientific and academic fields, including teaching, research, awareness, and discussion through international conferences.
The Director of the University of Sharjah reviewed the achievements made by the university in the field of sustainability over the previous years, and the permanent directives of His Highness the President of the University of Sharjah to achieve sustainable development goals in all fields, saying: “The University of Sharjah achieved first place in international classification systems over seven consecutive years (2017-2023). It received the gold category in 2022, and it is the first university in the Arab world in the American classification system (STARS). This is not surprising for a university led by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, who issued directives to strive seriously to mitigate climate change and the impact of global warming, treat environmental problems, support sustainability projects by singling them out with special programmes and integrating their vocabulary into academic courses and scientific research. For this work to be fruitful and disciplined by academic rules, a sustainability office was established at the university in 2017, and one of its most prominent purposes was to measure sustainability performance and motivate colleges to serve their goals in study and research.”

Al Nuaimi congratulated the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies for organising the conference and paying attention to the pressing issues of the era and the environment, which establishes a link between jurisprudence and reality, which is a major role for scholars in this field, extending thanks and appreciation to the eminent scholars participating from inside and outside the country.
Dr. Shawki Allam, Grand Mufti of Egypt, gave a speech in which he praised the conference and the topics it addresses in the issue of contemporary “ijtihad” in various areas of life, which relate to the higher purposes of Islamic law and achieving the highest interest of countries and peoples.

He said, “There is no doubt that sustainable development is development that does not only look at the problems of reality and is content with solving them, but it also anticipates future prospects by developing precise plans and following scientific methods, working on permanent modernisation and development, and presenting the best and most recent ideas to benefit from economic resources, be they human or material wealth, in order to achieve the highest levels of interest for countries.”

Allam discussed the importance of the efforts of eminent scholars in jurisprudential jurisprudence, especially in the field of sustainable development, which requires openness to cultures, benefiting from modern sciences, consolidating unity, supporting social means and employing them constructively in serving societies within a disciplined framework in accordance with the Islamic Sharia system.
For his part, Dr. Omar Al Darai, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (GAIAE), addressed, in his speech, the efforts of the United Arab Emirates in the field of sustainability, based on the belief of its wise leadership in the importance of sustainable development in all fields, pointing out that determination, will and leadership are conditions for achieving success in every field.

He said that the conference addresses the duality of diligence and development, which is one of the most important topics that addresses and achieves the development of the diligence system and its suitability and congruity with the future and its role in supporting security and peace by presenting an integrated vision. He pointed out that the necessity of looking at intellectual, cultural and scientific diligence alongside the diligence that we mean, is a disciplined legal concept, and in order to achieve  the condition of modernity, it  must take into account the four circles: the circle of Sharia, the circle of reality and the homeland, the circle of humanity, and the circle of the universe.
Dr. Al Darai concluded his speech emphasising the importance of the role of universities in renewing thought curricula and directing Sharia studies, the duty of academic institutions to contribute to the preparation and discussion of everything related to intellectual and jurisprudential diligence, in addition to openness to science and knowledge through values and principles and consideration of human commonalities and a comprehensive cosmic view of times and civilisations in order to facilitate diligence.

Dr. Ahmed Al Haddad, the Grand Mufti and Director of the Fatwa Department at the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai, delivered a speech in which he praised the idea of the conference in addressing the issue of jurisprudential diligence, an issue that has remained inherent to all Sharia rulings, and is achieved in this era through the establishment of jurisprudential institutions that have achieved consensus for scholars in issues.

In his speech, Al Haddad pointed to the role of the University of Sharjah in enlightening people about the importance of contemporary diligence and inciting the enthusiasm of professors and students for scientific research, paving the way and achieving sustainability according to the law of God Almighty.

Dr. Qutb Al Raisuni, Dean of the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, concluded the conference’s opening speeches with a speech in which he extended his thanks and appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the conference, including the supporting institutions and speakers from inside and outside the country, pointing to the college’s role in paying attention to graduate studies and scientific research, of which the conference is part of its efforts in supporting intellectual forums to discuss major issues in society, such as sustainable development, which is for proper planning of all life courses.
The Chairman of Sharjah Ruler's Office and the conference attendees watched a visual presentation that covered the academic programmes offered by the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, and the intellectual projects it organises to discuss legal and jurisprudential topics. At the end of the opening of the conference, Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi honored the speakers and sponsors of the conference.
The conference aims to control the types, paths and mechanisms of jurisprudential jurisprudence, consolidate the legitimacy of sustainable development through juridical texts and purposes, demonstrate the impact of contemporary scholars in keeping pace with the controversial issues in jurisprudence of their era and serve the field of sustainable development, strengthen the link between the jurisprudence of text and the jurisprudence of reality, and enable future generations to meet their needs through rationalization of consumption and clarifying the impact of contemporary jurisprudence in controlling the standards of rationalisation and its protocols and  procedures.
