The new program offerings include several pioneering specializations developed to meet changing labor-market needs. They are the Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence, the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence, the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence for Biomedical and Healthcare Applications, the Master of Science in Digital Transformation, the Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence, the Ph.D. in Digital Transformation, and the Master of Arts in Artificial Intelligence in Education.
The new programs reflect the University’s strategic vision of integrating innovation and advanced technologies into the academic environment, while strengthening its position as a leading research university locally, regionally, and internationally.
Prof. Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, announced that preparations are under way to launch the new Innovation Center, which is scheduled to open officially this July. The center, he said, will serve as a central platform for student talent and innovation, offering strategic support for linking academic research with industry, launching start-ups, and registering patents.
Prof. Agamy added that the initiative reflects the vision of His Highness. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, to cement the position of UOS as a leading regional and global beacon of research and innovation. It also supports the University’s EDGE strategic plan, which aims to launch more than 60 start-up projects and patents.
Prof. Agamy said the University’s academic progress has been matched by exceptional recent performance in global rankings. The University of Sharjah retained its position as the top university in the United Arab Emirates for the third consecutive year in the U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings for 2026-27, ranking 247th worldwide and 57th in Asia.
He added that the University also recorded notable distinctions in the same ranking, placing ninth in the world in sustainable environmental science and technology, 27th in energy and fuels, and 77th in engineering.
The University of Sharjah also climbed 45 places in the QS World University Rankings 2027 to reach 283rd globally. That rise was driven by substantial gains across several key indicators, including a jump of 163 places in citations per faculty member to 199th globally, a 47-place improvement in academic reputation, a 16-place rise in international research network, and a 14-place gain in employer reputation, along with improvement across many other measures.
In the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, UOS was ranked among the world’s top 101–200 universities. It also ranked among the world’s top 100 in five major criteria, including No. 27 in quality education and No. 47 in good health and well-being, while also standing out in responsible consumption and production, peace, justice and strong institutions, and reduced inequalities.
