Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation (SSEF) continues to implement the "Walls" project, aiming to refurbish and maintain orphan homes and their families.
They completed the renovation of a home for one of the orphan families in collaboration with the American University of Sharjah (AUS) after conducting comprehensive maintenance operations. The house was handed over in the presence of student affairs officials at the university, representatives of the foundation, and several volunteer students who participated in the maintenance.
A team from the university's Community Service Department, composed of students from AUS, conducted maintenance work on the house over three weeks. Afterward, new furniture and essential electrical appliances were provided, installed, and maintained in collaboration with the foundation.
Nawal Al Hamadi, Director of the Social Prosperity Department, stated, "Maintenance and repair of homes and providing essential appliances are a heavy financial burden on orphan families. Therefore, the foundation focuses on maintenance and refurbishment projects for orphan homes, continuously implementing the "Walls" project throughout the year through the cooperation and collaboration of community members with the institution. We are proud of the significant role played by the American University of Sharjah."
She added, "The project serves as a bridge for humanitarian communication and solidarity between volunteers from the community and the foundation, providing an opportunity for volunteers to engage in practical participation, benefiting them and enabling them to optimally utilise their time and harness their potential in serving the community. 'Walls' also opens the door for contributions from companies, institutions, and individuals willing to play a vital role in serving orphan families."
Aisha Ali, Director of the Community Services and Institutional Communication Department at the American University of Sharjah, said, "The 'Hand in Hand' project, led by the Office of Community Service and Institutional Communication at the American University of Sharjah in partnership with the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation, aims to promote community cooperation, with 60 students from the university volunteering to renovate an orphan family's home.
The university policy encourages students to participate in activities that benefit the community. We express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the unlimited cooperation of the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation with the Community Service Department's programmes."
The foundation's team visits the family, prepares a study of their social situation, evaluates their various needs, assesses the current condition of the house, determines the necessary maintenance in collaboration with technical supervisors working for contracting companies, presents the report to the team, studies the case, evaluates the need and eligibility, prepares a suitable action plan, and sets a timeline for maintenance.
