Sharjah 24: The Friends for Diabetes, affiliated with the Health Promotion0 Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, launched the second edition of the “Diabetes Ambassadors Initiative” in cooperation with Al Qasimia University in Sharjah, after the success achieved by the initiative in its first edition.
The initiative aimed to educate and qualify a group of young men and women from several countries about diabetes, so that they in turn spread health awareness in their homelands about this modern disease.
The second edition was organised over three continuous days at the headquarters of Al Qasimia University in Sharjah, and 40 male and female students of various nationalities participated in the edition.
They were trained by qualified doctors to spread awareness among students about the disease and how to deal with those infected, in addition to spreading awareness to healthy people to protect themselves from modern-day disease.
The agenda of the Diabetes Ambassadors’s second edition, held in the workshop hall at Al Qasimia University's library, included several workshops and lectures, where Dr. Elham Al Amiri gave a lecture, “What is diabetes?”, and then the participants were practically trained on measuring sugar levels.
On the second day, Dr. Ayman Al Zahran presented a lecture on the psychological aspect and its impact on the diabetic patient, and Professor Dr. Hisham Zakaria presented a lecture on the skill of spreading health awareness.
On the third day, Dr. Osama Al Lala gave a lecture on the role of sports and nutrition in prevention and treatment.
For her part, Her Excellency Khawla Al Hajj, Chairperson of the Friends for Diabetes at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, said that organising the second edition of the Diabetes Ambassadors came within the framework of the association’s endeavour to spread health awareness and care for patients. In addition to encouraging them to practice sports and turn it into an integral part of social culture and a healthy lifestyle.
She expressed her happiness at the fruitful cooperation with Al Qasimia University, which indicates the success of the community partnerships implemented by the association to achieve the visions of the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.
