Sharjah 24: To commemorate the World Arabic Language Day, Al Qasimia University held a festive event themed "Arabic: The Language of Poetry and Arts." This took place as part of the cultural and scientific initiatives orchestrated by the College of Arts and Humanities.
The gathering saw the presence of His Excellency Dr. Awad Al Khalaf, the university's chancellor, Dr. Mohamed Safi Al Mosteghanemi, Secretary General of Arabic Language Academy (ALA) in Sharjah, and Dr. Issa Al Hammadi, Director of the Arabic Language Education Centre for the Gulf States. Also in attendance were Dr. Hassan Al Malakh, the university's vice-director for academic affairs and dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, along with various guests, academic and administrative staff, and students.

Prior to the commencement of the celebration, the director of Al Qasimia University inaugurated an exhibition showcasing Arabic calligraphy in the foyer of the theatre. The exhibition displayed the geometric and decorative intricacies of Arabic calligraphy, blending elements of heritage and modernity.

During the event, a prerecorded speech by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the founder of Al Qasimia University, was presented. His speech delved into the Arabic language, its rich historical background, and its influence on global languages, emphasising our responsibility towards preserving it.

Dr. Mohamed Safi Al Mosteghanemi then discussed poetry from the Arab perspective. He highlighted how poetry serves as a record of their achievements and a means to convey messages, demonstrating its adaptability in expressing diverse purposes. Dr. Issa Al Hammadi explored the criteria for selecting poetic texts for educational purposes. He stressed the necessity of a scientific, educational, and cultural approach in choosing literary texts, especially poetry, to achieve specific educational goals and outcomes, as opposed to arbitrary or individual preferences.

Students from Al Qasimia University presented a documentary film titled "Born Complete to Endure," chronicling the origin and evolution of the Arabic language over time. Additionally, they staged a theatrical presentation highlighting the importance of the Arabic language across generations.

Concluding the celebration, Dr. Hassan Al Malakh, expounded on the Arabic language, underscoring its inherent beauty and majesty.

In the final moments of the celebration, Dr. Awad Al Khalaf expressed appreciation by honouring the participating guests, members of the organising committee, and the students actively involved in the event.
