Sharjah 24: Al Qasimia University organised the Union Day celebration to commemorate the founding of the Union and a 52-year journey of pioneering achievements, in the presence of His Excellency Professor Dr. Awad Al Khalaf, Director of Al Qasimia University, and in the presence of the University’s Vice Chancellors, the University’s Assistant Chancellor, deans, members of the academic and administrative bodies, and students.
The celebrations, held in front of the university headquarters, began with a march for members of the academic and administrative bodies and students. The campus was decorated with the UAE flags.
The Deanship of Student Affairs organised an exhibition of fine arts and photographs; a pavilion for the Sharjah Falconers Club; and a screening of a documentary on the establishment of the Union and the role of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, in strengthening the bonds of the UAE. The ceremony also saw an artistic performance by the students of Al Ahlia private school to the tunes of national anthems, and the university students reciting a number of poems.
In his speech, Professor Dr. Awad Al Khalaf pointed out that Al Qasimia University’s celebration of the fifty-second UAE Union Day embodies decades of effort and giving towards the path of pride, glory, development and achievements for a leading country.
Professor Dr. Awad Al Khalaf explained that this year celebration is an exceptional event as it represents a message of thanks, appreciation and gratitude from the multiple cultures of Al Qasimia University students, which coexist in tolerance and harmony on the land of love and peace thanks to the wise leadership of the UAE.
The ceremony concluded with a visit to the pavilions organised by university departments reflecting the authenticity and nobility of the Emirati heritage. The university also organised a panel discussion with His Excellency the poet Dr. Arif Al Sheikh, author of the lyrics of the UAE’s national anthem, and was moderated by the journalist Ahmed Lootah, to narrate unforgettable situations with the national anthem and how he penned its words with precision and care, to express the values, history and culture of the UAE people.
