Sharjah 24: The College of Communication at Al Qasimia University (AQU) organised a training workshop titled "Writing for Specialised Magazines: Marami Magazine as a Model," hosted by Her Excellency Salha Ghabish, Head of the Cultural Office at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, along with the Marami Magazine team.

The event was attended by His Excellency Professor Dr. Hesham Abbas, Dean of the College, together with all faculty members and students.

Workshop Aims to Strengthen Students’ Journalism Skills

The workshop aimed to enhance students’ skills in the art of journalistic writing by highlighting the experience of Marami Magazine as a practical example. It also sought to empower them with technical tools in the field of government communication, support them, and contribute to building their future capabilities.

Focus on Media Literacy and Critical Thinking

The workshop centred on media literacy, raising students’ awareness, enhancing their media capabilities, and instilling the necessary standards to distinguish between rumors, misinformation, and credible, reliable news. In addition, it provided students with the principles and fundamentals of journalism and media work, different types of thinking and their skills, components of critical thinking, its characteristics, and the benefits gained from it.

Insights from Marami Magazine’s Team

Her Excellency Salha Ghabish and the magazine team shared valuable insights into writing methods for specialised magazines and stressed the importance of excellence and professionalism in this field.

They emphasised that Marami Magazine follows a media approach that transcends the traditional promotional and marketing scene to achieve a greater goal: to be a safe and welcome guest in every home without compromising the magazine’s attractive image and expressive language, which work together to craft a message directed to every reader — whether man or woman, child, teenager, elderly person, or any individual representing a special case in their community.

Each of these individuals belongs to a family unit that needs awareness and education, sometimes in a serious framework and at other times through entertainment.

Agreement on Practical Training Opportunities

An agreement was reached between the Cultural Office and the College of Communication to provide practical training opportunities for students interested in contributing to Marami Magazine, including writing assignments and conducting workshops at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah.

Closing and Appreciation Ceremony

At the conclusion of the workshop, His Excellency Professor Dr. Hesham Abbas, Dean of the College of Communication, honoured Her Excellency Salha Ghabish and the magazine team in appreciation of their effective contribution to enriching students' knowledge and developing their skills in journalistic writing.
