Sharjah 24: 137 players from many different nations took part in a two-day youth sustainable championship hosted by the Sharjah Chess and Culture Club for Girls at the Al-Thiqa Club for the Disabled. There were a total of six clubs competing in the competition.
Coinciding with the Year of Sustainability, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the COP28 conference from November 30th through December 12th; therefore, the tournament is an established part of the club's local activity calendar.
First place went to the Union Club of Kalba, and second to the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club. With 8 points, Mohammed Shiyan was the top player in the championship, and Sultan Al Zarouni came in second.
The Chess and Culture Club for Girls in Sharjah honoured the club's top players in the championship. The awardees were Reem Al Jassmi (under 12 years old), Sheikha Al Mai'ni (under 10 years old), Naama Al Hamadi (under 8 years old), and Azza Al Hamadi (under 6 years old)."
Sharjah's Chess and Culture Club for Girls' Chairwoman, Najla Al Shamsi, said, "I am so happy that we were able to host this championship, and I was impressed by the level of competition displayed by all the young girls who participated (all of whom were under the age of 12)."
