Sharjah 24: Under the gracious care and generous support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the sixteenth edition of the theatrical season will kick off tomorrow evening, Friday, October 6th. Initially, the season's performances will take place in the first and second weeks at the Central Cultural Centers in Kalba and Dibba Al-Hisn cities. Subsequently, in the third and fourth weeks, the shows will move to the emirates of Sharjah and Umm Al-Quwain.
For this edition, four theatrical productions have been chosen, all of which were featured in the previous 2023 Sharjah Theatre Days. These selections were made due to their relevance to societal issues and their diverse perspectives and presentations, which captivate audiences and encourage engagement. The featured performances include:
"Zaghnaboot," a play produced by Sharjah National Theatre and directed by Mohammed Al-Amri. This production previously received recognition as the Best Theatrical Production at the Sharjah Gulf Theatre Festival and Sharjah Theatre Days in the last two editions, along with numerous other accolades.
"Qaimat Al-Khadijah," a play by the Kalba Folk Arts and Theatre Association, directed by Abdulrahman Al-Mulla. This play represented the UAE at the Cairo International Experimental Theatre Festival in its most recent edition held in Cairo last September, and it garnered multiple awards during its participation in the previous Sharjah Theatre Days.
The Chairman of the Theatre Association, the organising body behind the theatrical season, expressed, "After a three-year hiatus due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the theatrical season is making a comeback this year. Through this revival, we aim to solidify the theatrical landscape and transform it into a social activity that the audience eagerly embraces and actively engages with."
