Sharjah 24: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was represented for the first time by the Al Hamriyah rowing team at the World Beach Rowing Championship (WBRC) from September 29th to October 1st in Barletta, Italy.
Salem Al Khayyal, a board member of the Al Hamriya Cultural and Sports Club and the head of the club's Individual and Talented Games Committee, headed the UAE delegation. The national team did well, losing in the first round despite competing against more than 50 countries and a number of world champions.
Since this was the first time the United Arab Emirates national team had competed at the World Beach Rowing Championship, Al Khayyal commended the competition for providing them with the opportunity to test themselves against the best athletes in the world. He assured the public that the UAE team would take this experience to heart and perform well in future international competitions.
Al Khayyal expressed appreciation to the Sharjah Sports Council and the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation for their contributions to the development of marine sports in the UAE.
