Sharjah 24: The electoral campaign period for the 2023 Federal National Council candidates began on Monday, and will last 23 days, ending on October 3, with a ceiling of 3 million dirhams for electoral propaganda.
The National Election Committee (NEC) has identified several violations that may lead to cancellation of candidacy for the Federal National Council elections, as the candidate is prohibited from using the campaign for anything other than propagating his candidacy and electoral programme, interfering with the sanctity of the private life of any voters or candidates, and receiving money or donations, and the ceiling for spending on electoral propaganda shall not exceed 3 million dirhams.
The violations included promising to provide in-kind or financial gifts to voters, using violence or threatening to use it against candidates or voters, in addition to performing an act that would disturb the peace or harm national security, using the official state emblem or symbols in any electoral programme, or using associations, clubs, educational institutions, places of worship, hospitals, public parks or commercial centres in electoral propaganda.
FNC candidates are prohibited from exploiting religion, tribal or ethnic affiliation for electoral purposes, using loudspeakers for electoral campaigning outside of halls, sticking leaflets or advertisements on vehicles, and finally using text messaging services or digital application messages to communicate with voters.
