Sheikh Saeed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Chief of Sharjah Ruler's Office in Khorfakkan, with His Excellency Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) and Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee for Sharjah Heritage Days (SHD), inaugurated the activities in Heritage Village and Al Sedra Heritage District.
As activities got under way, the people of Khorfakkan welcomed attendees and expressed their joy at being given the opportunity to perform a great patriotic duty by fronting heritage in Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates. Sharjah continues to attract visitors annually to experience its rich heritage, and authentic values which inspire generations.
Attendees admired the Emirati dance of Al-Ayyala and the artistic performances presented by Austria, the guest of honour, which depicted the rich heritage and artistic taste through its chants, rhythms, and popular dress. They learnt how popular cultures have shaped social messages across generations and the impact of heritage on the convergence of cultures and the cohesion of society.
Like any ancient heritage country, people practised many popular games which have been immortalised in memory. The folk games team presented traditional games that still play an important role in entertaining children and adults.
During Sharjah Heritage Days in Khorfakkan, guests will be welcomed with various amenities, some of which are allocated for popular dishes and local crafts and markets. Competitions will also be held to garner interest in heritage among the public.
Children can enjoy favourite activities such as stories, competitions, tales, and theatre to support traditional culture. Activities will continue throughout Sharjah Heritage Days until the 21 March.
The Al Sedra Heritage District in the Luluyah area of Khorfakkan will host Sharjah Heritage Days activities. These will include popular and traditional food offerings, games for children, artistic performances and folk dances celebrating the spirit of heritage.
