Sharjah 24: The results of a survey conducted by the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) revealed the parents’ evaluation of the “Parental Relations Document”, developed to preserve the rights and interests of children that may be negatively affected after the separation of their parents. It also ensures that children continue to see their parents on a regular basis, while fully guaranteeing their rights.
The sample assessed aspects of the agreement, revealing a set of positives, based on what the participants mentioned, as 72% of the parents confirmed that they are satisfied with the terms of the agreement and its positive impact, and 61% reported that the agreement reduced the problems between the two sides. In addition, 71% praised the progress of children's rights and their proper upbringing, and 81% said that they achieved constructive communication with the non-custodial party.
According to Fayza Khabab, Director of the Family Forum Centre, the “Parental Relations Document” is a protective shield for the child in light of the separation of parents, and it is one of the means to ensure a successful, civilised and planned divorce in the interest of the foster children and includes all common aspects such as alimony, education, health, housing and vision in a manner that preserves the child’s dignity and rights.
This comes after the establishment of the Family Forum Centre to implement the provisions of the vision for separated parents and the feedback that were received to the child helpline, a proposal for a “Parental Relations Document” was submitted to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. His Highness issued Decree No. 41 of the year 2015 regarding the adoption of the document to be implemented by the competent courts before approving the separation between parents, who have children.
Regarding its objectives, she said, the objectives of the parental agreement are to draw the basic parameters in dealing with children after separation by informing the two sides of their duties and responsibilities, and creating respect between them without any of the two sides abandoning their duties.
