Sharjah 24: During the 14th Age Forum, which is held every year to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons, the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) introduced a new online platform called "SENIORx." This platform is the first of its kind in the Middle East and serves as a special place for senior citizens. It aims to showcase their life stories, accomplishments, and the important roles they play in the community.

The platform was launched by Fatima Ali Ibrahim, a remarkable ninety-year-old woman who is a beneficiary of the department and an active member of the Al Asalah Club. She is also one of the oldest volunteers. Seniorx focuses on highlighting the leadership and contributions of people over sixty, drawing inspiration from successful examples found in other countries. The goal is to celebrate older individuals as influential figures and sources of wisdom for younger generations.

Inspiration and experience sharing

The platform is designed to create a welcoming space where older adults can share their life stories and experiences with the community in a way that encourages open conversation. It allows them to talk about their journeys, achievements, and the challenges they've faced, showing how these experiences can inspire and teach others.

SENIORx aims to pass on the valuable lessons and insights of older adults to younger generations, helping everyone benefit from years of knowledge and experience. It also promotes the idea that aging can be positive, challenges common stereotypes about older people, and encourages meaningful conversations between different age groups. The platform highlights inspiring stories from the UAE and beyond, showing that qualities like leadership, creativity, and generosity can thrive at any age.

Additionally, the goal is to create a lasting platform that will host annual events and create regional networks for sharing experiences and success stories. Through this initiative, the Department of Social Services hopes to turn the stories of older adults into a community treasure, inspiring young people and future generations to believe that the ability to give back and make a difference isn't limited by age, but by the willingness to engage and contribute.
