Sharjah 24: The efforts provided by the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) to its affected affiliates, families, senior citizens, children and others, continue since the first day of the recent weather conditions that hit some areas in the UAE and led to torrential rains that swept away homes, cars and trees.
The SSSD worked with its partners to form urgent intervention teams of volunteers to provide in-kind and material assistance to the beneficiaries, who numbered 136 families, amounting to 1,836 individuals, all of whom were transferred to 13 hotels.
Mariam Al Shamsi, Director of the Branches Sector, stated that work is underway to restore and rehabilitate the homes of families affected by the floods, to allow their residents to return to them.
In detail, Al Shamsi indicated that 7,542 families from the people of the cities of Khorfakkan and Kalba were contacted to check on them, through the lists available from the Department of Statistics and Community Development, where text messages were sent to them to receive communications to provide urgent needs, and 654 urgent communications were received through the main line of the department 800700.
Also, the 57 elderly citizens residing alone were contacted to check on them.
