Sharjah24: Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) has concluded its annual Spring Program, in which Brownies, Guides and Senior Guides engaged in art-themed and outdoor activities, in keeping with the organisation’s mission to impart a wide range of creative and practical skills to its members. Running from March 27 – 29, it was organised in collaboration with Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) under the theme ‘Your Spring with Us’.
Art-themed activities
During the Spring program, members participated in art-themed activities designed to nurture their appreciation of art and enhance their creative abilities. Guides paid a visit to SAF’s art galleries and exhibitions, where they explored the creative expressions of famous artists. They also took part in a series of workshops on fashioning flower bouquets using commonly found household materials.
The great outdoors
The Spring program also included various interactive and hands-on activities for Brownies, Guides and Senior Guides including sports, cycling and archery. SGG members of all ages also attended a lesson in outdoor survival skills, including the procedures and methods that should be followed to protect people in dangerous situations. In a team-building workshop, the girls worked together to assemble rafts using wood and ropes.
A mapping workshop targeted at Guides enriched the participants’ understanding of cartographic symbols and codes and gave them an opportunity to draw their own maps.
‘Edutainment’ activities
Commenting on the event’s combination of entertainment and education, Shaikha Al Shamsi, Manager of SGG, said: “The three-day Spring program was full of fun “edutainment” activities that the girls thoroughly enjoyed. The event was an opportunity for them to experience and appreciate the beauty of art while also developing their own skills. Our brownies worked on 50 unique and stunning art pieces during workshop.
The SGG Manager added that the Scouting activities promoted the values of cooperation and communication, aligning with SGG’s strategy to foster a generation of responsible young women who can navigate life’s challenges confidently.
‘I am delighted that our collaboration with SGG provided the girl guides with a wonderful opportunity to enrich their cultural learning. At Sharjah Art Foundation, we always strive to make art accessible to the community through thoughtfully designed programmes for people of all ages and abilities. We look forward to many such partnerships with SGG,’ said Noora Al Mualla, the Director of Learning and Research at Sharjah Art Foundation.
