Sharjah24: Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) is proud to participate that it recently took part in the prestigious World Art Dubai event. This is the fourth consecutive year in which the Club has entered its artists, with World Art Dubai (WAD) now a major event in the Dubai art season. This year the exhibition was staged between the 16th and 19th of March, and showcased works by some of the region’s most talented up-and-coming artists.
Eleven promising artists from the Noon Art exhibition were chosen to participate, with Sharjah Ladies Club also holding a very special workshop with the Sharjah Girl Guides. Eight girls were taught to hand-make resin clocks, demonstrating the great skill and artistic potential which is required to become part of the World Art Dubai exhibition.

Every year, World Art Dubai aims to bridge the gap between artists and their audience, allowing the public to access exciting new works for a reasonable price. Lending her support to this ambition, Sharjah Ladies Club’s director general, Khawla al Serkal, said: “We were proud to participate in an international art show such as Dubai Art, for the fourth year in a row. Our ongoing participation reinforces our commitment to the arts and culture, and helps enrich the creative scene in the country. This exhibition was the perfect opportunity for artists from all over the world to showcase their artistic talents and exchange ideas, which ties in with the Club’s aim to support and empower women.

“Our contributions were a mixture of digital art and handmade resin clocks, from a number of artists working with the Noon Art exhibition and Collage Talent Center. We were extremely excited to see how visitors and critics responded to the work of these artists.”

Collage Talent Center’s assistant manager, Fatima al Naqbi, said: “I am happy to see our promising Sharjah Ladies Club artists participating in such a prominent international event. Our aim was to bring new talent and a completely new perspective to the art world, and we certainly achieved that.

“Our eight participants underwent a lot of training to hone their skills, but their art comes from within and speaks about who they are as women and individuals.”

Sharjah Ladies Club’s hope was that their participation would enrich the lives and careers of the artists involved, allowing them to meet like-minded creatives and exchange ideas with both them and the visitors who attend.

The participants displayed their talents across a range of mixed media. Among them, Emirati artist Nouf Sa’eed used a combination of acrylic and mixed-media art, and Shanzi al Shaikh from Pakistan displayed a collection of acrylic paintings inspired by nature, while Syrian artist Aya Kanoot exhibited intricate mandala art. Australian Niveen Majeed contributed acrylic paintings which celebrate the beauty of Arabic script, Israa Shajar of Sudan displayed a collection of leatherwork, and Pakistani woodworker Sanaa Merchant exhibited a range of beautifully carved pieces.

World Art Dubai is one of the most important international art events, and is always eagerly anticipated by many in the art world. The show gives people a chance to discover emerging artists and buy unique and incredible art from around the globe, making this an important event in the United Arab Emirates’ cultural calendar.
