Sharjah 24: Aiming to enhance the cultural dimension of sport, and the great role played by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in reviving the Arab and Islamic heritage in Spain through the construction of Granada Mosque in 2003, His Excellency Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC), visited the Spanish city of Granada, and Granada Mosque, which is the city's most attractive landmark for tourists. He also visited the Alhambra Palace and the cultural centre of Granada Mosque.
His Excellency Issa Hilal, was accompanied, during his visit by His Excellency Abdullatif Nasser Al Fardan, member of the Board of Directors, and they were received by Omar Del Pozo, President of the Islamic Society of Spain and Director of the Granada Mosque, who gave them a detailed explanation about the history of the Mosque and the Alhambra Palace, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and is visited by about 3.5 million tourists every year.
His Excellency Issa Hilal pointed out that the Islamic and Arab culture in Spain has deep roots, especially in Granada. Therefore, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah had many contributions on the Islamic and Arab levels in the city, and SSC was keen on this visit as part of thesporting mission to shed light on the Arab presence and link the present with the past.
