ZU inks an academic agreement with University of Madda Walabu

During the meeting, which was held virtually, both ends discussed ways of cooperation in providing academic and research services, exchanging experiences and information, and making the most of the capabilities and expertise available to both parties in areas of common interest.

The meeting was attended by His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Kelil, President - University of Madda Walabu and Dr. Hassan Shifa - Vice President, Dr. Clayton Mackenzie, Zayed University Provost, and Dr. Faris Hawari, Dean of the College of Natural and Health Sciences (CNHS) at Zayed University.

Commenting on the agreement, Dr. Kelil, said: “The collaboration between our two sister universities is part of our university’s goal to expand its collaboration with internationally recognized institutions engaged in education and research to help Ethiopians develop themselves. The signing of this agreement will open the way for collaborative efforts to advance knowledge, improve quality of life, and increase awareness of the importance of pluralism and diversity.”

Dr. Mackenzie stated, “Our teams at CNHS, identified some protentional research areas such as water resources management, hydrology, biodiversity, ecology, agriculture (consistent with our plan regarding establishing agribusiness program). We both can benefit from such a cooperation; our faculty can be exposed to new environments and diverse ecological systems (humid and arid systems) that are excellent for research, on the other hand, we share knowledge and experience with them as part of the UAE and ZU commitments for knowledge transfer.”

This collaboration can be expose students and faculty from both sides to new environments and diverse ecological systems (humid and arid systems) that are excellent for research. Local and international stakeholders engagement profoundly addresses such issues and highly encourages students to engage in enriching activities outside the classroom, including fieldtrips, conference participation, research, students clubs and community outreach activities.  Zayed University’s collaboration with Madda Walabu University would make it possible to develop new research projects with international impacts.
