ATI, ALECSO discuss collaboration in school theatre

Sharjah 24: The Director-General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO), Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, welcomed the Secretary-General of the Arab Theatre Institute (ATI), Ismail Abdallah, and his accompanying delegation at the organisation's Tunis headquarters.
The ALECSO's Director-General underlined the organisation's commitment to implementing the school theatre development strategy authorised by the Arab Ministers of Education and to developing a single curriculum for school theatre throughout the Arab world. He stated that the organisation will establish a committee to monitor the strategy's execution across the Arab world.

He emphasised the need of implementing all cooperative projects, particularly the plan for the development of theatre in the Arab world. He also highlighted the importance of prioritising "Comoros, Somalia, and Djibouti" in terms of training, research, documentation, and support programmes for theatre libraries.

Ismail Abdallah confirmed that the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in the field of school theatre are enhanced through fruitful collaboration with ALECSO and joint work programmes to develop theatres in various Arab countries.

Abdullah also stressed the importance of establishing a joint programme to develop expertise in the field of school theatres and establishing a common Arab working ground for the advancement of theatres in Arab countries through the ATI's various activities and events, including the Arab Theatre Festival, national festivals, performing arts centres, and various intellectual seminars and formative workshops.

In conclusion, it was decided to convene a combined meeting of ALECSO and the Arab Theatre Institute with the objective of coordinating and formulating a joint programme and processes for implementing and monitoring the two sides' recommendations.
