Education Ministers adopt a strategy to develop school theatres

Sharjah 24: In a new strategic Arab achievement for the Arab Theatre Institute, the eighth recommendation of the final statement of the Twelfth Conference of Arab Ministers of Education included generalising the strategy for the development of Arab school theatres in the Arab countries, and calling on Arab countries to cooperate with the Arab Theatre Institute in implementing the strategy contents according to the needs of each country.
Hosted remotely by Palestine from November 23 to 25, 2021, the conference and was organised in cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO).

The conference hosted the Secretary-General of the Arab Theatre Institute Ismail Abdullah, giving a comprehensive speech on the strategy.

Ismail Abdullah said that this is a new achievement dedicated to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the initiator of the idea and the creator of the renaissance project aiming at developing school theatres in the Arab world, developing the Arab cultural life, and the advancement of the nation.

He thanked the strategic partner, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO), and the Arab Ministers of Education for their trust, and for the strong support to the strategy of developing school theatres in the Arab world, set out  in 2014 towards the ten-year plan 2015-2025 , which aims to include theatre as a school curriculum for students.

Since 2018, the school theatre curriculum has been included in school, from the first to the twelfth grade, and the Institute’s experts have developed the teacher’s guide and curriculum.

Ismail Abdullah added that since 2021, the Institute has worked on implementing the cooperation agreement to develop the curriculum to be more responsive to a better future for our nation.
