Sharjah 24: Sharjah Directorate of Public Works (SDPW) issued 22 tenders for different projects during the third quarter of 2021, which included the construction of buildings and gardens, in addition to infrastructure, maintenance, supply and installation works.
Fatima Hassan, Director of Contracts Department in SDPW, said that the most prominent projects that were commissioned by the Directorate in the third quarter are the construction of the higher education building at the Sharjah Police Academy; the construction of the Victoria International School of Sharjah, in Kalba; the construction of a park and facilities for Dibba Al Hisn beach; the development of the Child Centre in Helwan; the maintenance of the archery stadium in Al Hamriyah Sports and Cultural Club; in addition to a number of maintenance projects in different regions of Sharjah.

Fatima Hassan indicated that 65 projects were assigned to companies during the third quarter, with a value of 430 million dirhams, and these projects contribute to creating new job opportunities, support economic activity in all sectors of Sharjah, and work to enhance the competitiveness of local markets, which increases their ability to attract more qualitative investments within the targeted sectors, in addition to promoting the growth of strategic sectors, and improving productivity levels.

The most prominent categories of projects included 19 construction projects, 18 maintenance projects, and 22 supply and installation projects.

Fatima Hassan added that a number of 6 letters of assignment were issued for consultants, to carry out special designs, topographic surveys, construction, environmental impact and supervision studies, most notably the markets and government buildings.
 
The Director of Contracts Department explained that reducing the costs of engineering projects in buildings and infrastructure projects is one of the most important priorities of the department’s work in accordance with government directions. Fatima Hassan added that the negotiation processes of 22 projects resulted in savings of approximately 63 million dirhams during the third quarter.

Fatima Hassan confirmed that the department held a series of workshops targeting employees and customers, most notably an introductory workshop on procedures and controls to be taken into account to calculate the estimated cost of projects. She said that another workshop tackled procedures for preparing documents and offering a tender for electromechanical works and the mechanism for evaluating companies. The fourth workshop was about contracts used for public services management projects. She concluded that the fifth workshop tackled procedures and controls to be taken into account to study and approve the change actions, and companies and evaluation mechanism.
