Sharjah 24: Sharjah Department of Public Works (SPDW) announced bids to 70 different projects during the second half of 2021. Bids included the construction of buildings and gardens, in addition to infrastructure, maintenance, supply and installation works, and demolitions.
Fatima Hassan, Director of Building Contracts Department, said that the most prominent projects, which the department was tendering during the first half, are the construction of Rwayda Women’s Park and Hamda Public Park in Mleiha, Muwailih park in the commercial area, the agricultural greenhouses in the Al-Bardi area, a livestock market in Khorfakkan, a sewage treatment plant in the Al-Houma area, a sewage pumping station in the Muwailih area, the pumping line to the Al-Houma station, and earthworks in the Al-Suyouh area (15), in addition to a number of maintenance projects in various regions of Sharjah.

Hassan indicated that 144 letters of assignment were issued during the first half of the year, amounting to AED777 million. The projects contribute to creating new job opportunities, supporting economic activity in all sectors in Sharjah, and working to enhance the competitiveness of local markets to attract more quality investments within the targeted sectors, in addition to promoting the growth of strategic sectors, and improving productivity levels.

The most prominent categories of projects included 35 construction projects, 42 maintenance projects, 58 supply and installation projects, 5 earthworks projects, and 4 demolition projects.

In addition, 26 letters of assignment were issued for the consultants' work to carry out special designs, supervision and calculation of quantities for projects, most notably mosques, gardens, educational buildings and sanitation.

Hassan also indicated that it was stipulated in awarding the contracts that the bidder should be one of the specialised and national companies registered with SPDW.

Director of Building Contracts Department called on national companies licensed to engage in activities by participating in the tenders that the Department periodically offers through its electronic platforms and on social media, noting that those wishing to tender should register in the Department's electronic system.

Hassan concluded that the Department's electronic tender system allows the submission of all public tenders on a single platform, allowing the contract management to reduce paper  procedures, shorten the duration of the documentary cycle of contracts and replace them electronically. This method comes within the procedures facilitation, more transparency and easier communication between companies and service providers.
