Sharjah24: Starting in early July, the Traffic and Patrols Department of the Sharjah Police General Command (SPGC) started a one-month traffic awareness campaign themed "Give pedestrians their right" to promote traffic culture principles as part of the Ministry of Interior and Sharjah Police's strategy.
"The campaign aims to develop and disseminate a culture of traffic awareness in order to ensure compliance to traffic norms that ensure the safety of pedestrians on the road," said Major Abdullah Al-Mandhari, Head of Traffic and Patrols Department at Sharjah Police.
According to the statistics released by the Traffic and Patrols Department, 22 accidents with varying injuries occurred on the emirate's roadways from the beginning of January to the end of December last year, due to over speeding, lack of attention, and crossing from undesignated places. According to Major Al-Mandhari, the "Give Pedestrians Their Right" campaign distributes awareness leaflets and instructions in three languages (Arabic, English, and Urdu) via official media and social networking sites.
He emphasised that the year-round traffic campaigns are aimed at educating members of the community.
