Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) has recently organised the fourteenth edition of the “Bisharat Al Qaith” (a ceremony that marks the ancient Gulf tradition of ushering in the summer season with celebrations), under the theme “The curlew”.
The general programme of the event included a photo exhibition covering all previous editions of the event from 2008 to 2020, and another about the curlew, as well as an audio video showcasing information about the curlew, in addition to drawing workshops for children.
As for the intellectual programme of the event, it included a lecture entitled “The Curlew”, held on the SIH theatre, which was delivered by researcher Abdul Aziz Sultan Al Ali, and moderated by Dr. Mona Bounaama, Director of Content and Publishing at the SIH.
Various events that included lectures and other activities have also been organised at SIH different branches, in Al Dhaid, Dibba Al Hisn and Kalba.
During the event, the importance of “Bisharat Al Qaith” was highlighted. The heritage importance of the curlew, its characteristics, the seasons of its breeding, and habitat as well as everything related to the bird were also dealt with. The event was well welcomed by the audience who praised the role of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage in organising such significant heritage events, which are of great benefit to society.
Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, said: “Bisharat Al Qaith” is one of the important events organised by the Institute. It started very modest, but today it occupies an important position, and researchers have focused on its importance and position as it reminds us of many details and evokes memory in all its details, especially as we speak today about the curlew, which is a popular bird among falconers.”
