Dr. Al Musallam is a researcher, academic and heritage worker. He is a poet, writer, and official well experienced in the world of heritage and research, in addition to his review on the experience and history of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, and how work started in Sharjah.
Dr. Al Musallam said that the interest in heritage in Sharjah began early, but it deepened, increased and expanded with the establishment of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, and today the Institute is one of the most important cultural institutions specialised in presenting Emirati and Arab heritage in its best.
The Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage presented the history of the heritage work in Sharjah, which developed with the establishment of the Institute, where work on heritage began through a small unit called the Heritage Unit in 1987, which evolved into the Heritage section, and then the Heritage Department in 1995. It was a large Department, which organised and implemented major heritage events, such as Sharjah Heritage Days, and others. In 2014, the vision on heritage became clearer, so the Sharjah Institute for Heritage was established, and became a global presence, in addition to its local, Arab and regional role.
Dr. Al Musallam pointed out that the Sharjah Institute for Heritage was established along the lines of Western institutes that embrace the cultural and academic dimensions. Today, the Institute has more than a thousand employees, and four branches in Khorfakkan, Kalba, Dibba Al Hisn and Al Dhaid.
