Sharjah24: As millions of children prepare to return to school in the coming weeks, many others face the new academic year without the basic supplies or financial support needed to continue their education. To help change that, The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF) has launched its 2026 Back to School Campaign, inviting individuals, families and organisations around the world to help 3,000 students in Gaza, Egypt and Sharjah begin or continue their education by providing the tools and support they need to learn.

The campaign transforms public generosity into practical educational support, from providing complete school bags for children in Gaza and Egypt to funding tuition for students at The Big Heart Educational Centre in Sharjah.

The campaign is being delivered with support from partners contributing at different stages of the initiative. Fares Al Shahm is serving as the logistics partner, supporting the shipment of school supplies to Gaza, while Air Arabia is supporting the shipment of supplies for students in Egypt. City Centre Al Zahia, part of Majid Al Futtaim, is providing space for the campaign’s four-day volunteering activation in Sharjah.

Supporters can contribute at different levels according to their means. A donation of AED 200 provides a student with a complete school bag and essential learning supplies. AED 500 covers one month’s tuition at The Big Heart Educational Centre, while AED 7,000 funds a student’s education for an entire academic year.

Turning generosity into practical support

From 20–23 August, individuals, families, and organisations are invited to join a four-day school-bag-packing activation at City Centre Al Zahia to support students preparing for the new academic year.

Held daily from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM on the mall's first floor, next to Home Centre, the activation will bring together individuals and families to pack notebooks, stationery and other essential learning materials for distribution through the campaign.

The initiative gives volunteers a direct role in preparing support for children before the start of the school year, transforming individual acts of generosity into practical assistance that helps students enter the classroom ready to learn.

Supporting students across three educational contexts

The campaign reaches students across three settings, united by a common goal: ensuring that education remains within reach despite financial hardship, conflict or displacement.

In Gaza, where conflict continues to disrupt daily life and education, school supplies will help children maintain their connection to learning wherever educational opportunities persist. Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 is supporting this effort as the campaign’s logistics partner for the shipment of school supplies to Gaza.

In Egypt, students will receive complete school bags containing the materials they need to start the academic year, prepared to participate, learn and succeed. Air Arabia is supporting the shipment of these supplies to Egypt, helping the campaign’s educational assistance reach its intended beneficiaries.

In Sharjah, donations will support students at The Big Heart Educational Centre, which provides educational and vocational pathways for children and young people from resident families with limited financial resources, helping them continue their education and prepare for future opportunities.

Turning community support into continued access to education

Mariam Al Hammadi, Advisory Board Member of The Big Heart Foundation, said: “A child’s circumstances should never determine whether they have the basic tools to learn. For children in Gaza, educational supplies can preserve an important link to learning amid profound disruption. For children in Egypt, a complete school bag can help them start the academic year with greater preparedness and confidence.”

She added: “This campaign gives everyone a clear and meaningful role. A donation, a packed school bag, or support for a student’s tuition can remove an immediate barrier to education and show children that their ambitions and futures still matter.”

Abdulla Alblooshi, Associate Director, Portfolio Management, Sharjah Shopping Malls, Majid Al Futtaim, said: “At Majid Al Futtaim, creating meaningful community impact is central to how we bring people together. By hosting The Big Heart Foundation’s school-bag packing activation at City Centre Al Zahia, we are proud to provide a space where families, individuals and organisations can turn their generosity into practical support for students.”

He added: “Education opens pathways to opportunity, and this activation offers our community a direct and meaningful way to help children start the academic year with the tools and confidence they need. We value our partnership with The Big Heart Foundation and hope the initiative inspires people across the UAE to take part.”

Every contribution makes a difference

The campaign has been designed to make participation accessible to as many people as possible. Donations start at AED 10, allowing supporters around the world to contribute to helping 3,000 students continue their education.

Supporters in the UAE and around the world can make online donations via TBHF’s official website.
