Sharjah 24: Kalba Sports and Cultural Club kicked off "Sports Week", the fourth and final stage of the Sharjah Summer Sports Programme "A Holiday Reimagined" 2026, run by the Sharjah Sports Council to help young people enjoy their summer break and develop a lasting habit of physical activity.

Opening day

Turnout was strong from the start. The club's sports hall hosted football, badminton, basketball and volleyball contests, all run under the eye of specialist coaches. Beyond the physical workout, organisers say the matches aimed to build teamwork and a healthy competitive streak among participants.

Testing young minds

Sport wasn't the only draw. Members also faced off in chess, while a separate session had them designing and assembling geometric models — an exercise aimed at sharpening problem-solving skills and creative thinking alongside the day's more physical activities.

Municipality workshop

The club's theatre hosted an awareness workshop titled "We Listen, We Preserve, We Inspire", organised in partnership with Kalba Municipality. Through hands-on activities, it introduced participants to the basics of environmental protection, recycling and sustainable practices.

A month-long programme

Abdullah Mohammed bin Huwaiden, board member of Kalba Sports and Cultural Club and chairman of the programme's organising committee, said Sports Week marks the final stop on "A Holiday Reimagined", rounding out a schedule built around physical activity, education and awareness. He added that the goal throughout has been to raise a generation that is healthy, aware and driven to take initiative.

With Sports Week now under way, Kalba Club brings its run of themed weeks to a close, following earlier editions dedicated to family, artificial intelligence and Sharjah — each of which, organisers say, drew strong turnout and engagement from members.
