Sharjah 24: Mexico, one of the three host nations of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, completed a perfect Group A campaign with a third consecutive victory, beating the Czech Republic 3-0 in Mexico City.

Mateo Chaves gave Mexico the lead in the 55th minute before Saudi club Al Qadsiah forward Julián Quiñones capitalised on defensive confusion six minutes later to score the second goal at the Estadio Azteca in front of 80,000 spectators. Álvaro Fidalgo added a third goal deep into stoppage time (90+4).

Mexico became the first team to collect the maximum nine points from the group stage, while the Czech Republic were eliminated after finishing bottom of the group with just one point.

South Africa qualified for the knockout rounds for the first time after securing a 1-0 victory over South Korea in a simultaneous match in Monterrey.
