Sharjah 24 – Reuters: Cristiano Ronaldo netted a brilliant brace as Portugal captured their first win of the World Cup with a commanding 5–0 thrashing of Uzbekistan in Houston on Tuesday.

Ronaldo opened the scoring early in the 6th minute before striking again in the 39th, making history as the first player ever to score in six different World Cup tournaments. The goals further cemented his legacy as Portugal's all-time leading World Cup goalscorer with 10 goals total, and at 41 years old, he became the second-oldest scorer in the history of the competition.

Nuno Mendes and Rafael Leão also found the back of the net, complemented by an own goal from Uzbekistan, as the dominant performance propelled Portugal closer to securing qualification from Group K.
