Speaking to Sharjah24, Al Ghafli stated that the event targeted school students and the general public with the aim of introducing the Qayth season and highlighting its connection to the UAE’s local heritage and agricultural environment.
Deputy Director of the Events and Activities Department at SIH highlighted that the event forms part of the institute’s efforts to strengthen the presence of folk heritage and ignite younger generations' minds with the traditional seasons associated with Emirati life.
In exclusive statements to Sharjah 24, Al Ghafli explained that "Bisharat Al Qayth" serves as an announcement of the arrival of the Qayth season, the summer season. The programme featured a variety of activities, including educational workshops and the "Guide to Bisharah" segment, which showcases the event’s journey since its launch in 2008 through to its 19th edition. The event is set to celebrate its 20th edition next year.
Al Ghafli added that the Bulbul bird was chosen as the event’s theme because of its close association with agricultural areas, where it is commonly found.
She explained that the bird feeds on ripe dates and plays a dual environmental role. On one hand, it helps eliminate certain insects found in palm trees, while on the other, it may cause damage to ripe date fruits. This makes it an integral part of the agricultural memory associated with the Qayth season.
