Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Institute for Heritage is organizing the third edition of the Heritage Conference from July 7 to 10, under the theme “Oral Traditions in a Changing World: From Live Performance to Digital Media,” with the participation of a select group of researchers, academics, experts and specialists from the UAE and other Arab nations.

The event is part of the institute's agenda to promote intangible cultural heritage and develop mechanisms for its preservation, conservation, and transmission to future generations.

The conference will discuss a range of scientific and intellectual issues, and will feature specialized sessions that will review the latest Arab and international studies and experiences in documenting and digitizing oral traditions, as well as discuss the challenges facing intangible heritage in light of rapid technological developments, and review best institutional practices in preserving cultural heritage.

The conference will also be a platform to celebrate the institute’s scientific output, through the signing of 35 new publications, covering diverse topics in the fields of heritage, popular culture and specialized studies.

Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, affirmed that the conference embodies the Institute’s vision to keep pace with global transformations in the heritage sector. He pointed out that oral traditions are no longer just a legacy preserved in memory. They need new tools to ensure sustainability and passing on to the next generation.

He added that the signing of 10 new publications during the conference shows the Institute’s dedication to its mission in science and culture, its enthusiasm for supporting academic research and creating specialised knowledge. This effort helps strengthen Sharjah’s status as a hub for studying heritage and preserving cultural traditions that may not always be visible.
