This milestone represents the department's seventh quality certification, underscoring its dedication to boosting operational efficiency, elevating service quality, and driving the sustainable management of government facilities throughout the Emirate of Sharjah.
The ISO 41001:2018 standard is designed to elevate the effectiveness of facilities management by driving performance, securing service continuity, boosting safety and reliability, and harmonizing operational and administrative workflows. The department secured this certification by deploying advanced operating systems alongside robust methodologies for strategic planning, maintenance, and asset management.
According to the department, this achievement mirrors its ongoing commitment to institutional excellence, the integration of global standards, and the application of innovative solutions that champion sustainability, resource efficiency, and superior public service delivery.
Over the years, the SDPW has established a comprehensive management framework centered around quality, customer satisfaction, business continuity, information security, and IT service management. The framework's foundation was laid with the ISO 9001:2015 certification for process improvement, which was quickly followed by ISO 10002:2018 and ISO 10004:2018 certifications to manage customer complaints and measure satisfaction.
Furthering its technical and operational resilience, the department went on to secure ISO 20000:2022 for IT service management, ISO 27000:2022 for information security, and the NCEMA 7000:2021 standard for business continuity during emergencies. Collectively, these credentials highlight the department's high level of institutional maturity, paving the way for its progression toward highly specialized standards like ISO 41001:2018.
As a core element of its digital transformation strategy, the department continues to elevate its facilities management capabilities through cutting-edge technology and specialised staff training. A prime example is the "Smart Bu’d" platform—a predictive maintenance and performance analysis system that monitors 430 government buildings and 65,000 individual assets, managed by a dedicated team of 65 technicians and inspectors.
The platform, which earned distinction as one of the top local projects showcased at GITEX, facilitates real-time oversight of government properties through a unified digital interface. By utilizing artificial intelligence-driven sensors and advanced data analytics, it proactively detects potential faults before they escalate into major operational issues.
The Smart Bu’d platform tracks vital performance indicators, including user comfort levels, energy consumption, carbon footprint, reporting response rates, and overall asset conditions. Additionally, it offers granular monitoring of electricity consumption across entire structures and specific assets, such as air conditioning systems, generators, and storage facilities.
By leveraging 3D visualisation, rapid fault identification, and precise energy tracking, the platform plays a key role in lowering carbon emissions, optimising resource efficiency, and improving the daily experience of those who utilise Sharjah's government facilities.
