US names Tom Barrack special envoy for Syria and Iraq

US names Tom Barrack special envoy for Syria and Iraq

Sharjah 24 – WAM: US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Tom Barrack, the US ambassador to Türkiye, will also serve as special presidential envoy to Syria and Iraq, as Washington deepens its strategic engagement with both countries.

Trump said on Truth Social that US relations with Syria and Iraq “continue to grow,” adding that Barrack will retain his role as ambassador to Türkiye while serving in the new capacity with full backing from the State Department.

He praised Barrack’s performance and thanked him for his continued willingness to serve. Barrack was confirmed as US ambassador to Türkiye in 2025.
