Sharjah 24 – AFP: Two people were killed and at least four others seriously injured in a shooting during Toronto's festival on Saturday, police said.

Targeted gunfire

Authorities said the violence involved an exchange of gunfire between individuals, with two firearms recovered at the scene. More than 13,000 people were attending the festival when the shooting occurred. Police said there is no evidence of an active shooter, though no arrests have been made and additional suspects have not been ruled out.

Leaders condemn attack

Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was "horrified" by the shooting and offered condolences to the victims' families, while Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the violence as a reckless act at a family festival.

Panic among festivalgoers

Witnesses said many initially mistook the gunfire for fireworks before panic spread through the crowd as police stopped the music and people rushed to safety.
