Sharjah24: Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of Cultural Affairs at the Department of Culture, announced the launch of the Islamic Arts Festival, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

The festival begins on Wednesday in its 26th session, with the slogan "Siraj." It aims to uphold the status of Islamic art within the fine arts, featuring the participation of 170 artists from around the world and hosting over 50 art exhibitions. The edition includes notable participation from UAE artists to showcase their work and creativity in Islamic arts.

Events and participating entities

Al Qaseer stated that the festival includes 120 events, such as exhibitions, murals, crafts, art workshops, and lectures, organised through collaboration between the Department of Culture and more than 26 entities in the Emirate of Sharjah. These include the Sharjah Museums Authority, Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), House of Wisdom, Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SPARK), and other organisations.

Al Qaseer explained that the festival showcases over 50 art exhibitions held at the Sharjah Art Museum, Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, Khorfakkan Amphitheatre, 1971 Design Centre, and the House of Wisdom, as well as other venues across the emirate. In addition, there are 8 lectures presented by senior artists and hosts at this festival.

Showcasing talents

In special statements to Sharjah24, Al Qaseer stated that this edition was different, as it received wide participation from the United Arab Emirates, which allowed Emirati artists to showcase their talents and creativity in Islamic arts.

Al Qaseer mentioned that several participants are from Arab countries, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Iraq, and others. Among the non-Arab countries, participants include Argentina, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Turkey. He also noted that the State of South Africa and the State of Belize are participating for the first time in this festival.
