Sharjah 24: The fourth edition of the Sharjah Ruler Camel Racing Festival, sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, began on Monday, November 10, at Al Dhaid Camel Racing Track. Organised by the Sharjah Camel Racing Club, the festival will continue until Friday.

Exciting first-day competitions

The opening day featured thrilling races for three- and four-year-old camels, with a total of 38 competitions—28 in the morning and 10 in the evening—over a distance of 3 km.

Major races and prizes

The day included four major races: the first open race for three-year-old female camels, awarding the Sharjah Ruler's Cup and AED 30,000 to the winner; the second open race for three-year-old male camels, with a rifle and AED 25,000 for the winner; the third race for three- and four-year-old female camels owned by local competitors, with a cup and AED 20,000 as prizes; and the fourth race for four-year-old male camels owned by local competitors, awarding a dagger and AED 20,000.

Winners of the day

The camel “Rayhan,” owned by Khalid Hamdan Ghanem Al Falahi, won the Sharjah Ruler's Cup, while “Sharṭ,” owned by Saeed Mohammed Ali Omair Al Rashdi, claimed the Sharjah Ruler's Rifle.

Festival significance and support

Abdullah Mohammed Ma'ded bin Huwayden Al Ketbi, chairman of the Sharjah Camel Racing Club and the organising committee, expressed gratitude to His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, and His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi for their continued support of camel owners and heritage enthusiasts. He highlighted that the festival brings together numerous camel owners from across the UAE and GCC countries to compete in 126 races over five days.
