The delegation included council members Sheikha Ali Al Naqbi, Dr Hind Saleh Al Hajri, Jassim Mohammed Al Hennawi Al Naqbi, and Humaid Obaid Al Hammoudi, along with officials from the council’s General Secretariat and a group of PhD students from the American University of Sharjah, adding an academic dimension to the visit.
Meetings with the UN and academic institutions
The visit began with a meeting at the United Nations office in Yerevan, where the delegation was received by the UNResident Coordinator in Armenia, Francois Jacob, and her team. Discussions focused on cooperation in environmental sustainability and youth empowerment, as well as Armenia’s preparations to host the COP17 climate conference next year. The two sides highlighted the need for joint global action to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and carbon emissions.
Dr Al Nuaimi praised the UAE’s leadership in global climate action following the hosting of COP28, stressing the importance of collective responsibility for a sustainable future.
Later, the delegation visited the American University of Armenia, where doctoral students from the American University of Sharjah presented research on urban planning and sustainable development, showcasing the UAE’s experience in building future cities and promoting environmental awareness. Discussions with university leaders covered smart city development, sustainability, and empowering youth through research.
Promoting innovation and environmental cooperation
The delegationalso toured Engineering City, a leading innovation and entrepreneurship hub in Armenia, where they reviewed projects supporting young talent and the knowledge economy. UAE Ambassador to Armenia Dr Nariman Al Mulla attended the visit, emphasising the importance of collaboration between entrepreneurs in both countries.
The day concluded with a meeting between the delegation and Armenian Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan, attended by Ambassador Al Mulla. Talks focused on cooperation in environmental protection, natural resource management, and clean energy, along with joint efforts to support Armenia’s hosting of COP17. The Armenian minister commended the UAE’s global achievements in sustainability, describing collaboration with Sharjah as an important step towards building impactful environmental partnerships.
