Sissy Papathanassiou, the Director of the Department of Literature at the Greek Ministry of Culture, articulated that the cultural relationship between Sharjah and Greece has historical roots that extend back many years.
The Greek Pavilion presents an exhibition of Greek literature journeying from the philosophical musings of ancient times to the vibrant voices of contemporary writers. Complementing the literary masterpieces are exquisite archaeological artifacts, skillfully carved from marble, their intricate designs and timeless beauty serving as a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of ancient Greek civilization.
Papathanassiou discussed the Greek Pavilion's logo, which is inspired by a Cycladic figurine, a form of sculptural art originating from the Cyclades, an island group in the Aegean Sea, situated southeast of mainland Greece. She noted that the logo incorporates a shade of blue, symbolizing Greece, and a vibrant orange, representing the Sharjah International Book Fair.
In her interview with “Sharjah 24,” she expressed her gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as well as to Her Highness Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority. She acknowledged their pivotal roles in facilitating this collaborative effort, which required considerable preparation, thus creating significant moments at the Sharjah International Book Fair.
