Sharjah 24: As part of its ongoing parliamentary work, the Sharjah Consultative Council's (SCC) Recommendations Committee held on Thursday an expanded meeting at the Council's headquarters.
                    The meeting focused on discussing the outcomes of the second session, which was dedicated to reviewing and discussing Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority's (SRTA) policies, within the framework of the third regular session of the eleventh legislative term.
 
The meeting was chaired by Jassim Mohammed Al Hanawi AlNaqbi, Head of the Committee, and attended by Dr. Sultan Khamis Al Zaabi, the Committee's Rapporteur, and members Ibrahim Mohammed Juma Al Mansouri, Issa Abdullah Al Kalbani, Sultan Ali Al-Musafri, Dr Obaid Ahmed Khasaw Al Naqbi, and Mohammed Ali Bin Salem Al Ketbi, and from the Council's General Secretariat, Othman Hamdi, Secretary.
Engineer Jamila Al Fandi Al Shamsi, Council member and Head of the Public Utilities Committee, also participated in the meeting to support the integration and finali ation of the recommendations.
 
Upgrading the infrastructure
 
During the meeting, the committee discussed the most prominent observations, proposals, and opinions raised by council members during the plenary session. It reviewed the main themes upon which the recommendations will be based, including developing road infrastructure, improving traffic flow, enhancing safety standards, upgrading public transportation services, and ensuring that road designs incorporate stormwater drainage to minimise water accumulation during the rainy season.
 
Enhancing efficiency through smart and sustainable solutions
 
The discussion also touched upon the importance of considering modern regulatory legislation that enhances the efficiency of the roads and transportation system and keeps pace with the rapid urban and technological development in the Emirate of Sharjah. This includes focusing on smart and sustainable solutions and supporting cooperation with relevant authorities to achieve the highest levels of traffic safety and integrated services for the community.
 
Comprehensive methodology
 
His Excellency Jassim Mohammed Al Hanawi Al Naqbi affirmed that the committee is working according to a precise and comprehensive methodology in drafting the recommendations, based on the constructive interventions and valuable observations made by council members during the session. This aligns with the ambitious vision and sound directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in developing the infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life in the emirate.
 
At the conclusion of the meeting, the committee agreed on the final draft of the recommendations, which will be presented to the council at a future session for approval. These recommendations aim to support the transportation and road network in the emirate and solidify the principles of integrated planning, sustainability, and road user safety.
