SP said that the far-right lane is reserved for heavy vehicles and buses, while motorbikes will be allowed to use the third and fourth lanes from the right on four-lane roads. Motorcycles may use the middle or right lane on three-lane roads, subject to authorised traffic laws, but they may only use the right lane on two-lane roads.
The authority revealed that monitoring operations will take place around the clock using smart radars and advanced video systems established across Sharjah's streets. In addition, traffic police will ensure that drivers stay in their respective lanes and follow traffic instructions.
It further stated that fines would be imposed in accordance with the Federal Traffic Law. Article 8 imposes a fine of AED 1,500 and 12 traffic points for heavy trucks that fail to follow necessary lane requirements, while Article 70 imposes an AED 500 fine for drivers who fail to obey traffic signs and directions.
SP advised all road users to follow traffic laws and rules and to use the lanes allotted for each vehicle category. The authorities confirmed that this organisation is consistent with its goal: to promote a culture of road safety and guarantee smooth traffic flow, consequently improving the quality of life in the Emirate of Sharjah.
