Sharjah 24: During her presentation at the Khorfakkan (KF) International Scientific Conference for Person with Disability and Adapted Physical Education, Professor Dr Tânia Bastos of the University of Porto's Faculty of Sport Sciences emphasised the significance of integrating mental health with physical activity.

When asked about the significance of intervention for those with serious mental problems, Dr Bastos responded that there is still "a lack of awareness about the importance of intervention" and that stigma is a barrier to treatment. Training educators, students, and practitioners may bring about "a big change in terms of attitude" towards mental diseases, which is why she emphasised the need for investing more in education and research.

Dr Bastos praised the conference organisers for giving them a forum to share research and ideas, highlighting the importance of international collaboration. The speaker highlighted the significance of these events for practitioners, academics, and students. She went on to say that her time in the UAE had been enriching on many levels, both professionally and culturally.
