Sharjah24: To mark the International Day of Older Persons, observed annually on 1st October, Al Dhaid Cultural and Sports Club organised a special community event to show gratitude and appreciation to the generation of fathers and grandfathers. A delegation from the club visited and honoured several senior citizens in the Suhaila area of Al Dhaid City.

Promoting loyalty and recognition

This initiative demonstrates the club’s dedication to promoting values of loyalty and filial piety, and to strengthening the recognition of senior citizens within the community, reflecting the authenticity of Emirati society and its commitment to its deep-rooted humanitarian and social principles.

Reflecting UAE’s compassion and respect

The event, held as part of the global celebration of older persons, emphasises the UAE’s commitment to the values of compassion and respect inherent in society. It also underlines the importance of fostering a cohesive community by recognising the role of fathers and grandfathers in development and education, as role models from whom generations have derived meanings of sacrifice and giving.

Raising community awareness

Such activities also help raise community awareness about the importance of providing care and support to this group, in line with national policies aimed at improving the quality of life for all society members.

Delegation, leadership, and activities

The delegation was led by Khalifa Mubarak Dalmouk Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Cultural and Community Development Committee, accompanied by members of the cultural committee and several club players who actively participated in the visit. The event involved honouring Elder Obaid bin Ghurair and Elder Matar bin Ghurair, checking on their health, and engaging in friendly conversations that reflected the depth of human connection between generations.

Warmth and spirit of the visit

The delegation also visited the family’s farm, reflecting the warmth of the meeting and the spirit of love that united the attendees.

Statements from club leaders

In his speech on the occasion, Mr Khalifa bin Dalmouk stated that this initiative forms part of the club’s community-focused approach aimed at improving intergenerational communication and raising awareness about the vital role senior citizens have played in shaping society. He also mentioned that the club seeks, through such activities, to promote values of respect and appreciation and to emphasise the high status of older persons in people’s hearts.

His Excellency Salem Mohammed bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Al Dhaid Cultural and Sports Club, stated that such humanitarian initiatives reflect the club’s message of fostering values of loyalty and filial piety and reinforcing bonds of love across different segments of society. He noted that honouring senior citizens demonstrates pride in their past contributions and encourages new generations to continue the tradition of giving through mutual respect and shared responsibility.
