Sharjah 24 – AFP: Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City cruised to a dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday, piling pressure on United boss Ruben Amorim. Phil Foden opened the scoring before Haaland struck a second-half brace to seal the win.

City bounce back in style

After two consecutive Premier League defeats, Pep Guardiola’s side responded emphatically. Foden gave City the lead in the 18th minute, heading home a cross from Jeremy Doku after poor United defending. Haaland added a second with a composed finish early in the second half and capped the performance with a third following a defensive error.

Haaland’s mixed moments

Haaland displayed his usual brilliance with a powerful finish and calm strike for his two goals, but also produced a shocking miss. After rounding Altay Bayindir, the Norwegian hit the post with an open goal in front of him — a rare lapse in an otherwise commanding display.

Donnarumma’s debut save turns the tide

City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma marked his debut with a crucial save that helped preserve City’s momentum. At 2-0, Bryan Mbeumo’s volley was destined for the bottom corner before Donnarumma stretched to tip it wide — a moment that denied United any chance of a comeback.

United struggle despite table advantage

For the first time in five years, United entered a derby above City in the table — but only due to City’s early season slip-ups. Amorim’s men have now earned just four points from four matches and were already knocked out of the League Cup by fourth-tier Grimsby.

City’s third goal came from yet another United mistake, with Harry Maguire losing possession to Bernardo Silva, who set Haaland free for his second. Reijnders nearly added a fourth but missed a clear opportunity.

Emotional tribute to Ricky Hatton

Before kick-off, both sets of fans united to honour boxing legend and lifelong City supporter Ricky Hatton, who passed away at age 46. A minute’s applause was held, and Hatton’s image was displayed on the stadium screens. Phil Foden said the tribute gave the team extra motivation.

City build momentum ahead of crucial fixtures

City remain six points behind league leaders Liverpool but gained a vital boost ahead of major upcoming clashes against Serie A champions Napoli and Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Pressure mounts on Amorim

Despite chants of "sacked in the morning" from the City fans, Amorim is not expected to be dismissed immediately. However, his Premier League record is now a worrying eight wins in 31 matches — raising questions about his future at the club.
