Sharjah 24 – AFP: Jamaican sprinter Oblake Sivell captured his first gold medal in the 100m at the 20th World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Sunday, marking a major breakthrough in his career.

Upsetting the favourite

The 24-year-old stunned fans by ending the reign of American Olympic champion Noah Lyles, who had previously dominated the distance. Sivell clocked a personal best of 9.77 seconds to take the title.

Podium results

Keyshine Thompson, also from Jamaica, secured the silver medal with a time of 9.82 seconds, while Lyles finished third, earning the bronze with 9.89 seconds.

A remarkable turnaround

Sivell’s victory is especially impressive considering he finished last in the final of the Paris Olympics just last summer. His win signals a strong comeback and a potential shift in the sprinting landscape.
