Sharjah Sports Council crowns winners of summer programme

Sharjah24: The Sharjah Sports Council celebrated the conclusion of the 11th edition of its annual summer programme “Our Holiday is Different” at the Sharjah Academy for Performing Arts. His Excellency Issa Hilal Al Huzami, Chairman of the Council, crowned the winners of the programme’s activities and competitions, which ran from 30 June to 31 July, with participation from the emirate’s sports and specialised clubs. The ceremony was attended by H.E. Abdullah Sultan, Council member, along with club board members, department directors, and council staff.

Programme highlights

The event opened with the national anthem and Quranic verses, followed by a speech by Programme Director Bakheet Saeed Al Qurs, a short film on the programme’s activities, and a theatre performance that delighted attendees. Supporting entities, including Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, Sharjah Civil Defence, Ministry of Family, Ministry of Health and Community Development, Child Safety Department, and the Sharjah Academy for Performing Arts, were honoured. Programme committee members and organisers were also recognised.

· Top sports clubs: 1st – Kalba Cultural and Sports Club, 2nd – Mleiha Club, 3rd – Al Bataeh Cultural and Sports Club

· Overall excellence award: Al Hamriyah Cultural and Sports Club

Programme impact

Al Huzami highlighted the programme’s success, noting its alignment with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi to engage youth productively. He emphasised the programme’s role in talent discovery, skill development, and community engagement, thanking organisers, participants, and parents.

Participation statistics Bakheet Saeed Al Qurs reported that this year’s edition saw 4,219 participants, an increase of 1,057 from the previous year. The programme involved 18 clubs, 11 morning and 7 evening events, a total of 1,636 competitions, and identified 1,000 promising talents to receive ongoing support from the Council.
