Sharjah 24: The Sharjah government sports cup is set to return for its second edition, continuing efforts to enhance the role of women's sports in the emirate. Organised by the Sharjah Women's Sports (SWS), the tournament will take place on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the SWS grounds, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Promoting women's participation in sports

This initiative is part of SWS's mission to consolidate women's presence in sports and promote a healthy, active lifestyle among female government employees. Sponsored by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), Bee’ah Group, and Sharjah Cooperative Society (SCC), the tournament will feature competitions in basketball, shooting, and archery.

Training sessions for optimal preparation

To ensure participants are well-prepared, official training sessions will be held on September 16 and 17, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. These sessions aim to sharpen skills and build team spirit ahead of the competition.

Empowerment through sports

Noura Al Hamar, Head of Community Events at SWSF, highlighted the broader goals of the championship: “This championship represents more than just a sporting competition. It is a space for women’s empowerment, strengthening ties between female employees in government agencies, and promoting a culture of sports as a way of life.”

She also noted that the success of the first edition inspired a more dynamic and engaging second edition.

Supporting a healthy, active work culture

The Foundation emphasized that the event serves as a platform to encourage regular physical activity among women in the workplace. It aims to improve quality of life, support mental and physical health, and contribute to Sharjah’s vision of making sports a lifestyle for everyone.

Building on the success of the first edition

SWSF concluded by inviting all eligible participants to join the event, noting the strong turnout and engagement in the inaugural edition. The Foundation expressed confidence that the second edition will feature strong competition and high technical standards, further cementing the championship’s growing reputation.
