Since the start of Israeli operations in October 2023, the total number of Palestinian martyrs has reached 62,819, with 158,629 wounded, according to medical sources. The majority of casualties are reported to be women and children, with more than 9,000 people still missing.
In a related development, churches in Jerusalem have called for immediate international intervention to end the humanitarian suffering in Gaza and to uphold the freedom of worship.
This appeal was made during a meeting between the Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and all Palestine, Syria, Arabia, beyond the Jordan River, Cana of Galilee, and Holy Zion, and two members of the US Senate.
During the meeting, the church leaders emphasized the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, which has resulted from nearly two years of continuous Israeli military operations. They urged for swift diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to bring an end to the conflict and protect civilians.
