Sharjah 24: The Summer Activities Department at the Dibba Al Hisn Sports and Cultural Club launched the new phase of the "Book Recycling" initiative, affirming the club's commitment to its societal role in spreading environmental awareness, promoting a culture of sustainability, and instilling concepts of environmental responsibility among various segments of society, particularly youth and young people.
Reuse rather than waste

The initiative, which was organised on Thursday and launched for the first time in the summer of 2023, is part of a series of unique initiatives adopted by the club with the aim of reducing paper waste and encouraging the local community to reuse rather than waste. This initiative involves collecting used books and recycling or redistributing them to benefit those most in need.

Creating a positive and sustainable societal impact

With this approach, Dibba Al Hisn Club continues its leadership in environmental responsibility among sports clubs, emphasising that sports, culture, and the environment can complement each other to create a positive and sustainable societal impact.

Since its launch and its second year, the initiative has witnessed tangible interaction from residents and club members, who expressed their appreciation for such pioneering initiatives. They consider them a qualitative shift in how environmental values are integrated into sports and cultural activities, reflecting the club's commitment to excellence in its community programmes and plans.

Environmental and cultural value

For his part, Ahmed Abdullah Al Naqbi, Chairman of the Club's Strategic Planning and Excellence Committee, emphasised that the initiative represents both an environmental and cultural value, as it contributes to promoting environmental sustainability goals and motivates the community to consider innovative ways to utilise resources. He pointed out that the book recycling process opens new horizons for redistribution to students and low-income families, thus consolidating the principle of responsible giving.

Building a conscious generation

Al Naqbi added that through this initiative, the Dibba Al Hisn Club continues its efforts to link environmental awareness with youth activities, calling on all residents to continuously engage with such programmes, which contribute to building a conscious generation that believes in the values of the environment and sustainability.
